Best Jobs For People With Accounting Degrees

Accounting is often perceived as a limiting career with not that many opportunities. This is not true. In fact, people with an accounting degree find the field they work in quite lucrative. There are quite many options for people with an accounting degree, aside from just working in a firm. If you’re good with numbers, then you’ll be glad to know there are plenty of opportunities out there.

The employment rate of accountants will increase in the years to come. More and more areas of the business environment demand skilled accountants and you should take this opportunity to earn an accounting degree if you haven’t already done so.

After earning such a degree there are several career opportunities waiting to be filled:

As An Underwriter

Underwriting is a process by which a financial service provider like a bank or an insurance company assesses the eligibility of a customer to receive their product. As an underwriter you would have to sign off different ventures like mortgages, credit or loans in exchange for a premium.

A Loan Officer

You probably already met a load officer, either from going to college or needing a loan for personal use. Whether for tuition, or household items, a loan officer is the person who manages loans for people and businesses. They act as an intermediary between the borrower and the creditor. You require a bachelor’s degree in finance or economics to be suitable for a loan officer position. Some employers prefer you have some experience in banking, lending or sales. Also, you should get accustomed with computers and banking applications.

The Financial Auditor

The financial auditor is responsible for reviewing the company accounts and to make sure that they provide a fair representation of the company’s financial position. This job will require you to go through the past tax returns and the other data that is relevant to the company’s financial health.

Certified Public Accountant

The CPA, or Certified Public Accountant is perhaps one of the most well-paid jobs. To get to such a high position, you have to pass the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination. You also have to meet other criteria, but the best place to start is of course to get a degree in accounting.

Some of these high-end jobs may require a bit more than a bachelor’s degree plus a few years of experience in a relevant position. You don’t have to aim for the best position in a company that requires a lot of experience and several degrees, but start with an entry-level and work your way up.
